Hey guys! Was feeling seriously overwhelmed the other day. We’ve literally just packed up half our house for a reno and I needed to do some serious decluttering as I went along my merry way. Problem was that there was so much to do I simply didn’t know where to start. Was really feeling like the headless chook running around in all directions and not getting anywhere with anything. So, I made a cup of tea and sat in the beautiful sun for 10 minutes to clear my head. Then I started. And I began with the no brainer stuff….things that needed to be thrown in the rubbish, clothes that we no longer wore etc. Basically, this was the easy, low-hanging fruit of decluttering, ie, the things that didn’t need any huge decisions about – they just needed to go and there were no emotionally charged items to challenge me. The interesting thing was, that I then transitioned quite smoothly onto the more challenging items and was able to tick along through that pile(s!!!) as well. Moral of the story is that, sometimes to just get started on the easy things is all it takes to help us tackle larger and more meaningful items. I think it’s a mix of a sense of achievement and just getting into a rhythm that helps and motivates us to do more.
Often we know what needs to be done. We just need to trust and listen to our inner-self a little more often!
Happy decluttering guys!
